[[Start Game->End of the Line]]Shuddering as you listened to the heavy iron doors slam shut, you curled up on yourself a little tighter. You didn’t dare pull your head up from your arms, but it wouldn’t matter if you did anyway. A gloomy darkness hung in the air around you, too strong to be pierced by human eyes.
It was a shame that the deliverer of your oncoming demise wasn’t human.
The people that imprisoned you had grown tired of trying to extract information that you didn’t have, but they couldn’t just let you go. Then you would almost certainly tell the Magistrate, and {reveal link: 'Grand Archmage Tarrenkeep', text: 'Grand Archmage Tarrenkeep - they heavily disapproved of the gospel the Temple of the Golden Eye preached -'} would shut down this little “project” immediately.
[[You should've just minded your own business.->Helper]]
[note]
The demon's name is Ingras. You’d found one of them while you were heading home one night, bleeding out on the darkened cobblestone.
It was as if the demon had been carved right out of the night sky, with her dark speckled wings and silvery eyes that shone like the two moons hanging in the sky. She snarled as you walked up to her, but she couldn’t do much else in her weakened state.
[[You decided to take her home to give her the best care you possibly could.->Maximum Help]]
[[You pulled your wand out and quickly cast a healing spell.->Some Help]]
[[You handed them a healing potion and went on your way.->Minimum Help]]

It was a difficult task; she protested the entire way home, but luckily no one came outside to confront you. That’s what you believed, at least.
By the time you had managed to get her onto your bed, she had lost a considerable amount of blood and was on the verge of passing out. You leaped into action almost immediately, using magic to heal what you could and sewing up what couldn’t be magicked away.
When you woke up the next morning, you went to check on your impromptu guest, but she had disappeared without a {reveal link: 'trace', text: 'trace. Your bedsheets were also conspicuously clean'}.
She’d also left you a little gift: a beautiful pendant with an enchanted cerionolite hanging from its golden {reveal link: 'chain', text: 'Cerionolite could greatly amplify any enchantments placed on it, which made it highly sought after in the magic world'}.
Your joy was short-lived, unfortunately. There was a thunderous knock at your door, and you soon found yourself surrounded by a group of paladins with the symbol of the Temple of the Golden Eye on their suits of armor.

You only had your wand on hand, so there were a few wounds that couldn't be treated. When you were done, the demoness backed away and flew off into the night, her feathers camoflaging here against the dark sky.
The rest of your night was peaceful, which was why it was so offputting when you were greeted by a troop of paladins in the morning. Their suits of armor had the symbol of the Temple of the Golden Eye on them, which meant they weren't here for anything good.

You decided to discreetly set down a healing potion on the ground in front of her and continue on your way. You heard stories of people helping or supporting demons only to die or disappear under myterious circumstances. You weren't trying to catch anyone's eye by helping them so this was the most you could do to help the injured demon.
Unfortunately, the Temple of the Golden Eye noticed your act of kindess anyway. In the morning, you found yourself surrounded by a group of paladins with the Temple's insignia on their suits of armor.

Your efforts were in vain. You fought as best as you could, taking out half their {reveal link: 'group', text: 'group (and half of your house in the process)'}. You used up all of your mana, leaving you with little energy to keep up the fight. In your weakened state, they subdued you and took you in for questioning.
With the ferocity you had fought back with, they were absolutely certain you knew something about the demons. They were determined to get more information about them by any means necessary, even if that meant torturing you for being a decent human being.

You were never one for violence, so you tried to bargain with them. You answered their questions as best as they could, throwing out as many pieces of misinformation as you could.
It almost worked, too. At least half of the paladins thought they had gotten the wrong person, but unfortunately the leader didn't buy any of it.
With how smoothly you talked and how you'd managed to convince all but the stubborn of the troop, they were absolutely certain you knew something about the demons. They were determined to get more information about them by any means necessary, even if that meant torturing you for being a decent human being.

You threw a smokescreen spell from your wand, dashing out the back door before they could realize what happened. For a good ten minutes, you led them through the labyrinthe alleyways of Embermere. You lept over barrels, scaled walls, dove under bridges; you would've escaped if you hadn't been so exhausted.
In the eyes of the Temple, your attempt to flee was an admission of guilt. and so they were absolutely certain you knew something about the demons. They were determined to get more information about them by any means necessary, even if that meant torturing you for being a decent human being.
[[That was three months ago.->Present Day]]Three months of being kicked, beaten, and whipped for information you didn't have left you a shell of yourself. You had barely eaten anything in the last week, which only worsened your current state.
It was clear that you wouldn't give them anything, so in one last act of cruelty they threw in a dungeon with the most deadly of all their captives - someone they'd deemed too powerful to kill, too dangerous to let them roam free .
It was a fitting punishment, they deemed, for your _respulsive_ acts of treason against the Golden Goddess' will.
