Whilst waiting, I look outside. It's sunny today, but not too warm. \n\nThe toaster dings. It's ready!\n\nI grab the toaster, burning my fingers, and drop it on my plate. \n\nI unscrew the jam jar lid, and take out a knife. \n\nI cover the toast with the delicious jam. \n\n[img[strawberry toast]]\n\nYum.\n\nTime to [[head back upstairs]]
We sit in the sun for an hour or two, and I'm getting hungry.\n\nThere's an ice cream parlour somewhere here. \n\n"Can we get ice cream? I'm hungry."\n\nMum reaches into her bag, and gives me her purse.\n\n[img[purse]]\n\nIt's a light blue colour, Mum's favourite. \n\nMum "Go and get three."\n\nThe ice cream stand is in the pier. \n\nI know roughly where it is, so I'll just follow the path until I get there.\n\nThere isn't many people out today, so hopefully there won't be a wait.\n\nI'll get 2 chocolate ice cream cones, for Mum and Dad, and 1 strawberry ice cream cone for me. \n\n2 chocolate ice cream cones and 1 strawberry ice cream cone please.\n\n2 chocolate ice cream cones and 1 strawberry ice cream cone please.\n\nor should I say can I have 2 chocolate ice cream cones and 1 strawberry ice cream cone please?\n\n"Can I have 2 chocolate ice cream cones and 1 strawberry ice cream cone please?"\n\nI whisper to myself. \n\nI can see the pier now, and theres a sign pointing inside labelled 'Ice-Cream!!' \n\n[[enter the pier]]\n
A couple of hours have passed now. \n\nThe sun is proper shining through my window now, and I might close the curtains. \n\nI take my headphones off and stretch in my chair. My bones making popping sounds, as if they were corn kernels in a microwave.\n\nI can hear someone going up the stairs. \n\nMum "Come downstairs! We are going out!"\n\n"Fine!"\n\nI put my shoes on, and head downstairs, confused and annoyed.\n\n"Where are we going."\n\nDad "We are going to the beach. You need fresh air."\n\nI get enough fresh air from heading to school. \n\n"Fine."\n\nWe leave, and get into Dad's car. \n\n[[sit in silence]] or [[start a conversation]]
"No thanks, I can take them all."\n\nShe looks embarrassed, and hands me the third ice cream.\n\n"Thanks."\n\nI hold it awkwardly between my hands, and I turn around to leave.\n\nCara "Wait!"\n\nShe's scribbling on a piece of paper. \n\nCara "Call me, if you want."\n\nShe's given me her number.\n\nThis must be some sort of miracle, not only does someone want to talk to me outside of when they are socially expected to, but that someone is a pretty girl!\n\nI'll call her tonight.\n\n\nI smile at her.\n\n[[leave parlour]]

Ok, I'm gonna hug her.\n\nHow?\n\nShe unlocks her car, and it beeps.\n\nShe turns to face me, to say goodbye.\n\nI step forward.\n\n"Can we hug?" \n\nImmediately, she pulls me into a hug. \n\nWe hold eachother tightly. \n\nCara "I'll call you tonight."\n\n"I can't wait."\n\nWe seperate, and she gets into her car.\n\nI wave goodbye as she drives off.\n\nToday has been perfect.\n[img[heart]]\n\n[[End]]
I continue walking. \n\nThere's not many people out today, which is odd. \n\nFrom what I've heard, this beach is usually busy, full of people wanting to tan, swim or surf. \n\nI can see the pier in the distance now. \n\nIt 'floats' above the water, held up by many beams. I wonder how they put them there. Or why.\n\nDespite it being completely sturdy, there's always a lingering thought in my mind that I could misstep, place my foot directly above a weaker beam and it would just collapse, sinking the pier, and me in the process.\n\nThat'd be fun.\n\nI step into the pier, trying to distract myself from thoughts of drowning. \n\nIt's actually so loud in here. The arcade is playing music, and each machine is blaring out sound effects, trying to entice people into playing. \n\nI'll mess with the 2p coin machines. You put a 2p coin in, and it rolls down a tunnel until it lands hopefully on the edge of a pile of other 2p coins, where it then gets pushed into the pile, knocking coins onto a lower level, and then knocking more coins down out of the machine, where I can take them and try again. \n\nThere's prizes in this one, little erasers. \n\nNow just got to get the money. \n\nMum's got a couple coins, but that won't be enough. \n\nI scan the area, and spot a machine that can convert pounds and notes into 2p coins. \n\nI take out a pound to start with, and put a little container on the machine, so the coins don't go everywhere.\n\nIt makes a sastifying sound as 50 coins come zooming out of the machine.\n\nTime to develop a gambling addiction.\n\n[[£10 later]]\n\n\n\n
[img[strawberry]]\ns t r a w b e r r y s a t u r d a y \n\nAn informal first person short story, made with Twine.\n\nYou are a student, staying in your parents house. \n\nYou spend most of your time in your room, playing games. \n\nOne Saturday, you go to the beach with your parents, and meet a pretty girl, called Cara. Will you speak to her? \n\n8 endings available!\n\n\n\ndisclaimer: I am British, so I use British spelling and phrases :) \n\n[[Start Game]]
I take out my phone, and open google maps.\n\nOk so I'm here... so the pier is this way... the direction I was originally going.\n\nGreat, a waste of my data.\n\n[[walk]]
"Can I go to the arcade?"\n\nDad "Yeah, we are gonna stay here for a bit."\n\nMum is reaching into her bag.\n\nMum "Take this- go win yourself a toy"\n\nShe hands me her purse.\n\n[img[purse]]\nIt's a light blue colour, Mum's favourite. \n\n"Thanks."\n\nI walk off, and head towards where I think the arcade is.\n\nMajor emphasis on think. \n\nOk. I don't know where I'm going.\n\n[[check google maps]] or [[keep going]]
A short story by Inane Cat. [img[cat]]\n\nMade using Twine.\n\nThank you for playing!
I walk downstairs, and my parents are watching tv in the living room. \n\nHopefully they don't notice me, I'm not in the mood to be yelled at.\n\nI don't know what I'm going to have for lunch...\n\nWhat should I have? [[jam sandwhich]] or [[noodles]]
I'll have noodles for lunch.\n\nI open the cupboard, taking out a packet of instant beef noodles.\n\nI take a saucepan out, placing it on the hob. I read the back of the packet, and it says to boil 250ml of water, and then to add the noodles and cook til the water is gone. I grab a measuring jug, and turn on the tap. There we go.\nI pour the water into the saucepan, and turn on the hob. I hold the dial down as it clicks, and the fire lights. I turn it up, as hot as it can get. \n\nI open the packet, and place the noodles in. The waters not boiled yet, but I don't care. It came with a little satchet of beef flavouring, so I rip that open and sprinkle it on the noodles. \n\nNow I wait for it to boil. \n\nI can hear footsteps...\n\nMum "Good afternoon. What are you doing today?"\n\n"Nothing"\n\nMum "It's a nice day outside, you shouldn't be spending it stuck in here."\n\nI watch the noodles boil. \n\nMum "Come on. Don't you have friends you can hang out with? It's the weekend after all. When I was your age I was out from dawn to dusk!"\n\n"I'm making lunch right now."\n\nShe sighs, and goes back to the living room.\n\nThe majority of the water has boiled away now, and it looks pretty much ready to be eaten. \n\nI get out a bowl, and pour the noodles into it. \n\n[img[noodles 2]]\n\nThey smell nice.\n\nTime to [[head upstairs]].
I guess I'll attempt to start a conversation.\n\n"So..."\n\nMum "Hm?"\n\n"You don't have to force me outside, I'm perfectly capable of going outside myself."\n\nDad "Ah, so that's why you've been up in your room every day for weeks now?" \n\n"I go to uni! I'm not in there all the time."\n\nThey both stay silent.\n\nMum "How is uni?"\n\n"What? It's fine."\n\nMum "You can invite all your friends round then. Have a little party, or whatever."\n\n"Why would I have a party?"\n\nMum "I want to meet your new friends!"\n\nI'm silent now. \n\nUni is fine, but I haven't gotten round to actually talking to people yet. \n\nIt's so much easier just to arrive to class, sit in silence and then get up and leave. If you don't have friends, you don't have to worry about losing them. \n\nMum drops the subject, and I see her and Dad exchange glances. \n\n[[the beach]]

I'll have a jam sandwhich for lunch.\n\nI take two slices of bread out of the cupboard, and put them on a plate. \n\nI go to grab the strawberry jam out of the fridge, when I hear footsteps.\n\nMum "Good afternoon. Here goes nothing. \n\n"Would... Do you want to play one of the games with me?"\n\nMy brain freezes for a second, trying to find where on earth I got the courage to ask her. \n\nCara "Oh! Like Zombies?"\n\nShe points to the game.\n[img[zombie]]\n\n"Yes!"\n\nI probably said that with a bit too much excitement, but I can't believe this. \n\nWe walk over to the game. You sit in a chair, and use a pretend gun to attack zombies, until you die and then you put in another pound and do it all over again. \n\nShe sits to my right. I still can't believe this is actually happening. \n\nShe reaches into her bag for a pound.\n\n"No, no I'll feed it." \n\nAnd I take a pound out of Mum's purse. I'm going to owe her alot after this, but I couldn't care less right now.\n\nCara smirks.\n\nCara "Go on, feed the machine."\n\nDoes she think I'm funny? For real?\n\nI put the pound in, starting the game. \n\nWe play, and she's so good.\n\nI die first, and she quickly die afterwards.\n\nCara "Want to go again?"\n\nSay [[Yes]] or [[No]]\n\n
I sit in silence, listening to the radio. A cheesy pop song is playing, repeating the same lyrics over and over. How original.\n\nI like it though. \n\nThe song ends, and another comes on.\n\nIt's a song I've heard a million times. It used to play all the time at school discos. \n\nNostalgia.\n\nI relax in my seat, and wait.\n\n[[the beach]]

I open up league of legends.\n\nMy favourite, and least favourite game. \n\nI think about playing ranked, and quickly change my mind. Don't want to be told to uninstall the game, and my life.\n\nI play summoners rift, unranked. I call mid, and lock in my champion. Top and 'jungle' are arguing, because they both want to be top. I get up.\n\nI usually didn't have breakfast but today will be different, I guess.\n\nI think I'll have toast.\n \nWith strawberry jam.\n \n[[make toast]]\n
It was going to be a regular Saturday. \n\nI didn't have any plans, other than to stay home and stare at my computer screen until I was too tired to keep my eyes open.\n \nMost Saturdays are like that... hell, most days. \n\nI woke up at 11 and [[checked my phone]] or [[went back to sleep]]\n
Well, that was nice.\n\nI suppose I'll go on my computer now...\n\n[[turn on my computer]]

We are at the beach. \n\nIt's not much of a beach though, more like a large amount of randomly sized rocks sloping downwards towards the sea. Not like those picture perfect sandy beaches. \n\nWe used to collect seashells here, and Dad would drill holes in them, to make little seashell necklaces.\n\nAnd we would buy chips, and sit on the stones, fending off any greedy seagulls. \n\nI haven't been here in a while...\n\nThere's a pier somewhere around here, with an arcade.\n\n[[go to the arcade]] or [[stay]]

[img[phone]]\nI check my phone. \n\nNo new messages, as usual. The only notifications were from Twitch, telling me about streams that ended hours ago. \n\nShould I [[have breakfast]] [[skip breakfast]]\n
I put my lunch on my desk, and sit down. \n\nMum's right really... I shouldn't be inside all the time, but what else is there to do.\n\nI don't have anybody to go outside with, and it's much easier to just play games all day.\n\nI sigh, and begin to eat.\n\n[[after lunch]]
I'll stay here, with Mum and Dad. \n\nI don't have any money for the arcade anyway.\n\n[[sit in the sun]]\n
We part ways, and I head back to my parents. \n\nToday has been amazing. \n\n[[End]]
I head downstairs to the kitchen. \n\nMy parents are in the living room, watching tv.\n\nThe bread should be in the cupboard...\n\nUgh, it's in the freezer. \n\nI pull my sleeves over my hands, and open the freezer.\n\nThere it is. I love bread when it's covered in ice. \n\nI open the bag, and struggle to break a slice from the loaf. \n\nIt's like the ice has super glued them all together. \n\nFinally, with frozen fingers, I stick the bread in the toaster, and open the fridge. \n\nA jar of strawberry jam looks right back at me. \n\nI pick it up, and place it beside my plate. Now just to [[wait for the toast to defrost]].
I'll wait for the ice creams. \n\nI couldn't actually talk to her anyway...\nI'd just end up saying something stupid. \n\nMy strawberry cone is made now, and she hands it to me. \n[img[ice cream]]\n\nIt's cold.\n\nIt's light red, and has pieces of strawberry in it. \n\nWait.\n\nHow will I hold all three ice cream cones with two hands?\n\nAgh. \n\nI'll just struggle. \n\n[img[chocolate ice cream]]\nThe second one is made now, and I hold it in my other hand.\n\nThankfully, it's not too hot otherwise the ice creams would become water creams.\n\nI think I'll hold the first two in my hands and carefully hold the third between them both. \n\nThe third ice cream is done now.\n\nCara holds it out for me to take, and I pause. \n\nShe's got beautiful dark brown eyes, capable of reflecting the stars. \n\nI briefly forget what I'm doing, and I stumble back into reality. \n\n[img[chocolate ice cream]]\nI take the third ice cream, and hold it awkwardly between my hands. \n\nMy cheeks are bright red, again. \n\nCara "Thanks for coming!"\n\nI leave the ice cream parlour and begin slowly heading to Mum and Dad, careful as to not drop the ice creams.\n\n\nWe eat our ice creams, and then leave.\n\nToday has been ok.\n\n[[End]]
I enter the pier.\n\n"Can I have 2 chocolate ice cream cones and 1 strawberry ice cream cone please?" \n\nI whisper to myself again.\n\nI enter the ice cream parlour, and approach the worker.\n\nJesus.\n\nShe's beautiful. \n\nLight red hair, the colour of strawberries. \n\nShe's wearing a light pink top, and a dark blue skirt. \n\nAnd she's looking right at me, waiting for me to speak.\n\n[img[cara]]\nOn her top is a badge, displaying her name. 'Cara'\n\nShe's smiling at me. \n\nBut shes at work, of course she would. \n\nCara "Hi!"\n\nI go bright red, and try to remember what I wanted to order.\n\nFocus godammit, you came here to get ice cream.\n\nI look down, and there is a wide variety of flavours available. I quickly scan them, making sure chocolate and strawberry are there.\n\n"Uh... Can I have two chocolate ice cream cones, and one strawberry ice cream cone please?"\n\nCara "Of course. That'll be £4.50"\n\nI fumble in Mum's purse, and hand Cara the money.\n\nShe takes out a waffle cone, and takes out an ice cream scoop from a bowl of water and prepares to scoop the strawberry.\n\n[[talk to her]] or [[wait for the ice cream]]\n
"Yes! That'd be great."\n\nShe no longer looks nervous, and is smirking. She leans over to look outside.\n\nCara "No-ones gonna come in, I might as well close the parlour now." \n\nShe puts the third cone down on the counter, and goes into the back. \n\nI can't believe this. \n\nMy heart is going crazy... \n\nShe comes out of the back. She's wearing a backpack, and her hair is no longer tied up.\n\nShe truly looks amazing. \n\nMy brain briefly stops working, until she says something.\n\nCara "Shall we go?"\n\nI nod.\n\nCara "Wait-"\n\nShe takes her backpack off, and takes out her phone.\n\nShe taps it a couple times, and then turns it around to show me her screen.\n\nShe wants me to add myself as a contact.\n\nShe wants my phone number.\n\nShe wants to talk to me.\n\nI type in my number, and she puts the phone back in her bag.\n\nWe leave the parlour, and walk back to my parents.\n\nI introduce her to my parents, and they are happy.\n\nCara introduces herself, but it's not long til she has to go.\n\nI walk with her to her car.\n\nShe's about to unlock her car door...\n\n[[hug her]] [[say goodbye]]

I nod, and she puts a pound in.\n\nWe play for a while, but it felt like minutes. \n\nWe talk about ourselves in between rounds. She attends the same university as me, and studies creative writing. \n\nShe's so funny, I haven't laughed like this in a while. \n\nMy phone buzzes, and I've got a text.\n\nMum "We are leaving soon, come back." \n\nCara "What's your number?"\n\nIs... is she actually asking me? \n\nI show her my number, and she puts it into her phone. Well, here goes nothing.\n\n\t"Hi!"\n\n\tCara "Hello?"\n\nWhy... why on earth did I say hi?! God, I'm such an idiot.\n\nBut... she's smirking. \n\n\tCara "So, how are you?"\n\n\t"Good, I'm good thanks"\n\nI pause for a second.\n\n\t"How are you?"\n\n\tCara "Also good. Do you live around here? I think I've seen you before."\n\n[img[strawberry ice cream]]\nShe hands me my ice cream. It's a nice light red strawberry colour, and has pieces of strawberry in it. \n\n\t"Yeah... I live fairly near, about a 20 minute drive."\n\nI don't recongise her.\n\nCara washes the ice cream scoop in the water bowl, and grabs another cone.\n\n\tCara "What's your name?"\n\n\t"It's y/n"\n\nCara isn't facing me, but I can see her smile more.\n\n\tCara "That's a nice name."\n\n[img[chocolate ice cream]]\nShe hands me the first chocolate ice cream cone, and I put it in my other hand. \n\nWait.\n\nHow will I hold three of them with only two hands?\n\nI can't hold two in one, my hands are too small. \n\nIf I try, I can hold the third inbetween them, but I don't want to embarrass myself in front of Cara, if I haven't done that already. \n\n\t"Thanks! Yours is nice too." \n\nShe's blushing now, turning the same shade as her beautiful hair. \n\nIs this flirting? Is this how you flirt?\n\nI have no idea. \n\n\t"Your... Your hair is really pretty" \n\n\tCara "You're pretty..."\n\nFor real?\n\nDoes she actually think that?\n\nI can't think of what to say so I just smile.\n\nShe goes to hand me the third ice cream, but realises I don't have a free hand.\n\nCara "My shift ends in a couple minutes, I can hold this for you, if you want me too."\n\nShe was looking into my eyes before, but now she looks nervous. \n\n[["No thanks."]] [["Yes!"]]

Goodbye money. \n\nI swear, it's impossible to win a toy from these machines. It's like they superglue them down. \n\nWhat else do they have here?\n\nThere's actual games, but they are all multiplayer. \n\nThere's also claw machines, but winning a prize from those would be harder than parting the red sea. \n\nI sit down, and check my phone. \n\nNo data, no notifications. \n\nA flash of red catches my attention, and I look up.\n\nA girl is standing in front of me, looking at the multiplayer games. \n\nShe's got beautiful light red hair, and I'm just frozen. \n\nShe's wearing a light pink top, and a dark blue skirt. \n\nShe looks... amazing.\n\nIs she alone, like me? Could I ask to join her?\n\nNo, I'm just being stupid. I couldn't speak to her... And she's probably waiting for her friends. \n\nIt feels like my heart is beating a ten times a second. \n\nI drop my phone.\n\nIt feels like time freezes as it slides towards her, and hits her shoe.\n\nLike her hair, I'm now red.\n\nShe looks down, and then at me. \n\nAnd she smiles.\n\n"Is that your phone?" she asks.\n\n"Yea." \n\nShe reaches down and picks it up, and hands it to me. \n\nI see she's got a badge on. 'Ice-Cream Employee - Cara'\n[img[cara]]\nCara.\n\nShe notices I'm looking at her badge. \n\nCara "Yeah, I work at the Ice Cream Parlour. I got off work a couple minutes ago."\n\n"Nice!"\n\nNice? Is that all you can come up with? And she's still smiling at me, and I'm smiling back at her. \n\nShe's so pretty...\n\nI should [[ask her if she wants to play]] or [[leave]]
I open up minecraft.\n\nMy hardcore survival world is waiting for me. \n\nI have good enough armour and weapons to take on the ender dragon, but I've got to find the courage to do it first.\n\nI'll feed my animals, harvest my crops and chop down some trees. I want to expand my base/attempt to make it look nice. \n\nI've also got to head to the nether, and collect resources for brewing. \n\n[[a couple hours later]]
I hold my plate, and head back upstairs.\n\nI put it on my desk, and sit down. \n\nMy clothes and headphones were on the chair, so I threw them onto the floor. \n\nWhy put my clothes on, or put them away when I can just hurl them out of the way.\n\nI put my headphones onto my head, as I don't think throwing them across my room would be suitable, as they are still plugged into my computer. \n\nMum points out the dent they leave in my hair at every opportunity.\n\nI eat the toast. \n\nStrawberries are my favourite fruit. \n\nI wonder why they are called strawberries? They aren't even berries...\n\nAnd just like that, the toast is gone. Poof.\n\nTime to [[get changed]]\n
